Osteopathy in New Zealand is a small but passionate profession. As the public has become more aware of the profession and the benefits of Osteopathy, demand has increased. Even with a dedicated training course at Unitec, demand for Osteopathic services means there is actually a shortage of practitioners in most areas of the country. This provides great opportunities for those seeking a successful career in healthcare in New Zealand.
Registration as an osteopath in New Zealand is through the Osteopathic Council of New Zealand (OCNZ). Eligibility requires either graduating from an accredited university program in New Zealand (Unitec), equivalent qualifications from the accredited programs in Australia or via one of two pathways offered for overseas qualified osteopaths by the OCNZ.
